You've unloaded your dryer, so it's time to fold the clothes, right? Not so fast. You need to clean the lint filter in your dryer after every load. Lint buildup not only reduces the efficiency of your dryer, but it creates a fire hazard. Firefighters routinely respond to dryer fires in homes and apartments, said Lt. Kent Worley, a Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman. "In nearly all cases, it is the result of lint being trapped in the lint filter itself," he said. Nationwide, about 13,000 fires and 15 deaths a year are attributed to dryer fires, Worley said.
