Negative ions help retain freshness

For the first time, a freshness retention technique developed in Japan uses negative ions to prevent the proliferation of bacteria and fungi, the causes of food decay. A negative ion generator has been developed by Mitsubishi Electric Corp. scientists (2-2-3 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100, Japan). The unit prevents food discoloration and denaturing in the same way that ozone sterilization does.
