Miracle Waters

 

Miracle has not been dived enthusiastically for months owing to winter.  Consequently visibility on the first dives hovered around the 15 - 17 metre mark. Fantastic.  Normal compass bearings were invalidated as the plane was clearly visible from the bus, the bus was clearly visible from the grid and the grid was clearly visible from the stairs.  For the first time the entire architecture of the lake was obvious.

It's incredible how the sense of distance is seemingly enlarged when diving in low / zero visibility dives.  On saturday the grids, sunken wrecks and bottom markers appeared impossible to miss and yet six months before we were travelling on compass bearings and peering through 270 degrees to catch a glimpse of our "markers" eager not to pass them in the murk.

The surface temperature was 19 degrees with bottom being no less than 15 degrees.  After bass (12 degrees) last W/E this was bliss, although most of us had gloves / hoody / chicken vest.  Cold was not a problem.
